As an apparel supplier, it’s SanMar’s job to know the latest trends.  To be honest, it’s a pretty fun job—and one we get a lot of help with from customers eager to give feedback on styles they see and like (or dislike) in the fashion and retail arenas. 

We also have a product development team that’s constantly on the lookout for promising fabrics and great new silhouettes that might be incorporated into our catalog.

Being on top of the latest trends isn’t just essential for us as a supplier, it’s important for salespeople, too.  It enables distributors to entice customers and make them more comfortable with new styles.  So we thought we’d take this opportunity to give a rundown of some of the latest trends we’re seeing in the marketplace.

Microfleece Miracle

Microfiber has been popular in our industry for a while now—a favorite of customers looking for a super-soft hand and high-performance.  Well, Microfleece uses the same concept (an extremely fine yarn that allows for a denser weave) and applies it to fleece. 

Microfleece is all the rage with the top outdoor retailers, and the reason is plain: It’s lighter than standard fleece, and because it’s denser it protects the wearer better, too.  That’s not to mention its incredibly soft feel!

Exclusive Goes Ballistic

Ballistic Nylon was originally developed for bulletproof vests and military jackets.  It may seem a little odd to put it to use in high-end accessories for the civilian world, but it’s actually a match made in heaven.

Do Distress!

Wait, wait!  I think there’s something wrong with this cap! 

Nope – think again.  Distressed caps, often pigment or garment dyed for an extra softness and a worn look, are extremely popular with the younger set.  It gives that worn favorite-hat look that normally takes years to achieve on the first wear.

Performance Fabrics

Just when you think the men and women in white lab coats have done everything conceivably possible with performance fabrics, they think of something new.

This is an incredible category that’s gone a long way in the past few years.  This year, performance fabrics are more comfortable and impressive than ever—wicking moisture, trapping heat, releasing heat, reading the body’s every whim. 

It’s a great time to be an athlete.
