Two new names are debuting in SanMar’s 2008 Apparel and Accessories—Supima® Pima cotton and Modal. These natural fibers originate from very different sources, but both are the basis for truly superb clothing.

Supima®: Guaranteed Superior Pima
American-grown Supima Pima cotton is one of the highest grades of cotton in the world. With its extra fineness and longer staple length, Supima sets the benchmark for premium Pima cotton. With superior strength, durability and drapeability, Supima has far greater consistency than Peruvian and Egyptian Pima cotton that can vary greatly in quality. While imported Pima has no regulated features, all Supima Pima cotton must meet the high standards set by the Supima cotton growers’ organization.

SanMar has been using Supima Pima cotton for years in products like our popular Port Authority® 100% Pima Cotton Sport Shirts (K448 and L448). Five other products are also crafted from Supima Pima cotton:

• Red House™ Pima Interlock ¼ Zip Pullover (RH09)
• Red House™ Ladies Pima Interlock Jacket (RH08)

In order to claim the luxurious origins of the fabric, we had to secure a license from the Supima organization. SanMar is now officially licensed (we’re the only major supplier in the industry who is!) which means you can assure your customers they’re buying the finest cotton in the world—guaranteed!

Modal: The Cashmere of Casual Knits
Who would have thought tree fibers make a soft fabric? They do! Modal is a remarkable new fiber with even greater softness than mercerized cotton. As a bio-based material, it comes to us from an unexpected source—beech trees.

Modal has a slight loft and gives garments a delightful hand. SanMar is using modal and Pima cotton to craft our new Port Authority® Ladies Soft Touch Shirts (L487, L488, L489). Your customers can choose from a sport shirt, ¾ sleeve ballet neck or t-shirt. With reduced pilling, shrinkage and fading, these ultra-feminine styles are sure to be a favorite.
