By using paper made with no less than 10% post-consumer waste fiber in our 2007 catalogs, SanMar saved:*

• 9,386 trees
• 26,968 lbs of waterborne waste
• 3,811,678 gallons of water/wastewater
• 566,987 lbs of solid waste
• 1,086,328 lbs of atmospheric emissions
• 6,670,437,200 BTUs of energy

Most of our catalogs also meet strict Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification standards. The FSC promotes sustainable forestry and helps decrease the negative effects of logging like water pollution and industrial paper and ink recycling. Our most eco-friendly catalog to date, the 2008 Essentials Collection Catalog, contains a minimum of 30% recycled material. This puts SanMar in an elite group of companies who use this amount of recycled content in their catalogs.

*Data is based on SanMar’s 2007 total 10% post-consumer waste paper usage of 9,529,196 lbs. These numbers were calculated with help from the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive, the U.S. Postal Service and Environmental Defense. The data was developed by Environmental Defense and other organizations to promote the purchasing of environmentally responsible papers.
