Job Description
The main function of this position:-
− Work closely with the Buyers in the development of color pallets to brief suppliers.
− Assist buyers in processing and evaluating lab dyes and 1st color submissions received from suppliers. Based on the results of the assessment communicate the results back to the supplier.
− Assess bulk color submissions from suppliers (both visually and using a spectrophotometer.)
− Make decisions on these bulk submissions and communicate results or action to be taken back to suppliers.
− Where possible communicate and work with suppliers to overcome color continuity problems.
− Maintain good records of all decisions made and the management of color. Also manage all color standards and color continuity records/filing.
− Communicate with suppliers and ensure they know the approval process and requirements.
− Assist in training team members.
Experience Required
− Has been employed in a similar capacity in a textile mill or international buying/sourcing or Retail buying office.
− Has had 3 to 5 years experience as a textile fabric colorist.
− Must have excellent vision and color perception. Must be able to pass the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test and should achieve a score of 24 or less. (Preferably should get a superior discrimination rating of 0 – 16).
− It would be a great advantage if the candidate has studied a course of Textile Coloration and Dyeing degree or diploma or similar Textile qualification.
− Should have a thorough understanding, experience and knowledge of the color development and approval process in textiles.
− Knowledge of dyeing would be an added advantage in order to communicate with dyeing mills.
− Experience in the testing of textile would also be an advantage in this role.
− Should have experience in visually assessing color using a light box – assessing lab dyes, and bulk submissions. Have the ability to effectively communicate the results of these evaluations back to supplier and buyer.
− Should also have experience in visually managing color continuity of bulk submissions.
− Experience in operating and managing color using a Data Color spectrophotometer (or similar instrument) and using the software to communicate the results back to suppliers and buyer.
− Good communication skills and team skills.
